We were generously gifted with a Vitamix blender this weekend. I had no idea a two horsepower blender even existed!
I know what I want to use it for, but I’m also looking for other recipes and suggestions on what to make in the Vitamix. Those of you that have one, what do you make in it?
I am ridiculously jealous! I want a Vitamix so, so badly but can’t afford one right now… sigh. Enjoy it!
We wouldn’t have one if it wasn’t a gift. Even if I had the money, it would be hard for me to spend so much on a blender. Costco seems to be about $100 cheaper than Amazon, but it’s still pricey.
My favorite appliance, well worth it! Smoothies, smoothies, smoothies… use a base of 1c liq (milk or coconut water), 1/2-1 scoop protein powder, 1/2-1 frozen banana + other frozen fruit/berries. From there I add any of the following depending on my mood: greens, carrot, celery, flax seed, chia seed, cocoa powder, ice… the list goes on! For a more substantial smoothie, soaked oats are good. For a thick, creamy one, avo or coconut milk. I also use it to grind flaxseed meal and make oat flour, etc.
I think we’ll end up primarily using ours for smoothies. I love frozen bananas that have been blended into a soft-serve consistency. Coconut milk in a smoothie would be delicious! Also hadn’t thought about using it for oat flour (or putting soaked oats into the smoothie). Thanks for the ideas!
Do you have the dry blade container as well, or do you just make the oat flour in the standard wet blade container?
No, I just use the standard container to make flours (oat, buckwheat, etc.) and it works well. I looked at getting the dry blade, but am not really sure if it’s that much better or just a marketing thing (from what I recall, I think the blades just rotate the opposite direction, so I couldn’t understand why it would be that much better).
Oh now, I remember, the blades are angled differently. For oat flour, which is very soft, I don’t think you’ll need it.
Thank you! Good to know!
Ohhh I’m so jealous! My parents have one and I’m always tempted to steal it while they sleep when I go visit. My mom uses it to make soups, smoothies, rice flour, almond flour, almond milk, ice cream-y things…
How does the homemade almond milk compare to store-bought almond milk? I wouldn’t think it would be worth the effort, but maybe I’m wrong!
ive been looking around for one… for a while…Are they really that much better than standard blenders?
I keep hearing people say that the “Vitamix has changed my life.” I’m not to that point yet – all I’ve made is a banana soft-serve concoction (which was awesome). I’ve been traveling the last few days, but fully intend to put it through its paces this weekend. I’m sure I’ll write more about it once I’ve made some more things.
